Hi! I'm Ash:)
I am a Brooklyn-based director, editor and producer driven by a visual arts background and a lifelong interest in the intersection of sound, image, and human stories.
My path into filmmaking began in Berlin in 2009; while co-founding the art collective Ideenfabrik, our projects started shifting toward the moving image. I found myself pulling all-nighters shadowing friends in the "edit suite", realizing then that solving the many puzzles of filmmaking was something I could spend my life doing.
After returning to New York, I spent four years as an editor at Nickelodeon, which helped me bridge the gap between that early experimental spirit and high-end studio production. Today, my work is driven by a deep curiosity for human stories. I lead with a documentary-style sensibility—searching for those raw, unscripted moments—but I apply that same lens to narrative films and commercial projects. For me, it’s really about uncovering those moments that feel authentic.
When I’m not making films, I’m a community organizer, event producer and DJ. For over a decade, I’ve been a core part and producer for an underground collective Bob & Shirley, and have produced the music festival Sustain-Release since 2023. I’ve found that the muscles I use as a filmmaker are complementary to those I use for these events; both require a "big picture" orchestration that balances a DIY ethos with high-stakes production, while paying close attention and care to the details. This dual background has made me well-practiced in resourcefulness and creative problem-solving—skills I bring into every environment I build.
This immersion in the music scene also means sound is never an afterthought; I approach story with a DJ’s perspective, treating pacing and sonic texture as primary storytelling tools.
Whether I’m directing, producing, editing, I’m passionate about creating work that feels grounded, cinematic, and honest.
